Jackie Thorne - Head of School

Mrs. Jackie Thorne is an Upper School teacher of Humanities and Latin. She is studying theology at Bethlehem College and Seminary, where she is currently working on her Master of Arts in Exegesis and Theology.

Mrs. Thorne is a true lifelong learner: she can often be found getting lost in her stacks of books with a warm espresso, savoring poetry, or dabbling in Shakespeare. She resonates with C.S. Lewis’s conviction that “you can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” She loves to share these passions with her students, and is eager to help shape their hearts, minds, and souls through Christ-centered education.

Mrs. Thorne lives with her husband and children in Minneapolis.

Jake Thompson - Academic Dean & Upper Primary Teacher

Mr. Jake Thompson has taken the role as Valor's Academic Dean. Mr. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Biblical Studies from Bethlehem College and Seminary. He is well-learned in the classical liberal arts tradition and has profound passion for the retrieval of classical education in the life of the Church. He sees this noble work as one of the most essential and effective means of raising up the next generation of wise and virtuous Christians. His vision for cultivating the virtuous life and the life of the mind resonates with the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: "If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."

Mr. Thompson is an aspiring academic and theologian with a passion for classical theism, Thomistic philosophy, and the Reformed Protestant tradition. He is also passionate about Christian culture, the role of liturgy in the life of the classroom, and classical pedagogy. It is his joy and privilege to participate in the great calling of Christian classical education and help students see and savor God's truth, goodness, and beauty in every sphere of life.

He lives with his wife and daughter in St. Paul and is an active member of the North Church in Mounds View.

Lindsey Gabrielson - Teacher & Student Support Services

Mrs. Gabrielson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Bethel University and a Certificate in Bible from the University of Northwestern. She has always loved learning and teaching and thinks that the education of the next generation is one of the most crucial issues of our time. She has been involved in teaching and caring for children and youth from birth through college as a homeschool mom,
tutor, co-op director, daycare provider, and church volunteer over the
past twenty years.

Having competed in Math Team and Math Counts, Mrs. Gabrielson has a special love for mathematics, which she hopes to share with students
at Valor. She also loves learning other languages, reading, and discussing ideas with others.

Mrs. Gabrielson and her husband, Curtis, are members of Beacon of Hope church in St. Paul. They have two children, who are excited to attend school at Valor.

Jade Carey - Primary Prep Teacher

Mrs. Carey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She  is dually licensed in Elementary and Special Education and taught first grade for 7 years in a classical setting. She tutors several students from the Twin Cities area focusing on fundamental reading and math skills. Jade and her family attend Crossroads church in Woodbury where she serves as the preschool teacher in children's ministry. She is passionate about the mission of Valor and excited to partner with families in developing each child's God-given talents and abilities. Through a nurturing and structured environment, students will grow spiritually, academically, and socially.

Jade loves spending time with family and friends, baking, growing things in her little garden, and playing outside with her kids. She and her husband Adam live in Lake Elmo with their two children Miles (5) and Olivia (2).

Jennifer Olsen - Elementary Teacher

Mrs. Olsen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loyola Marymount University and has taught students of all ages over the last 15 years. Through educating secondary English speakers in Southeast Asia, teaching middle schoolers at Classical Conversations homeschool co-op, coaching figure skating, and homeschooling her own children, a love for teaching runs deep in her life. She considers it a joy to watch students grow in all areas of their development—academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Her passion is seeing children mature in wisdom, skill and love for the Lord as they study how He created the world. She loves to foster a learning environment that nurtures growth through a challenging atmosphere of hard work harmonized with fun.

Mrs. Olsen lives in Roseville with her husband Ben and five children, ages 12, 10, 6, 3 and 1. She loves to spend any spare time she has (which is none) gardening, traveling, cooking, and playing with her littles. She attends Beacon of Hope church in St. Paul.

Mrs. Ryan and her husband, Jodie, live in Oakdale and are members of Cities church in St. Paul. They have four children (two of whom still live at home and attend school at Valor), and five grandchildren.

Diane Ryden - Music Teacher

She has taught in public schools, homeschool co-ops, and her church, teaching/directing a variety of ages from kindergarten students through adults. Within the last five years, Mrs. Ryden has also been teaching voice lessons…and loving it!

Diane finds delight in watching her students grow in their skills and love of singing and music in general. However, her greatest passion is getting to witness them using their gifts in music to offer up to the Lord a sweet fragrance of praise, both individually and corporately!

Mrs. Ryden and her husband have three adult children and live in Minneapolis.

Emily Steffen - Art Teacher

Emily Steffen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of Northwestern, St Paul and has a humongous passion for encouraging creativity and teaching students all about the world of visual arts. As an accomplished artist herself, she is always aiming to provide students a positive environment where students can get messy, try new things and make mistakes all while building their knowledge of art history and art vocabulary. She LOVES teaching a variety of ages from kindergarten to adult and has taught in a private school, at church and at many camps.

Emily and her husband, Aaron, started a church in Hudson, WI where he currently is the lead pastor, and they live in Roberts, WI with their two children.

Graham Litrenta - Chapel Leader / Secondary Teacher

Some particular interests include the Reformed Tradition and the relationship between the Reformed reception of the Thomistic tradition, 17th century English history (especially John Owen), and 20th century theology. Having served the church in various Sunday school and youth ministry settings, Mr. Litrenta is enthusiastic about discovering the truth of reality and showing the goodness and beauty of that truth to his students.

Mr. Litrenta and his wife, Abby, live in Minneapolis with their son Ambrose. They are members of Cities Church in Saint Paul. He likes to spend his free time reading, taking walks with his family, learning languages, and playing piano.

Mr. Colestock’s mission is to glorify God in all of life. His role is to shepherd, teach, and organize the charge to make disciples who glorify God in all of life. He wants to see all of Stillwater honor Christ as Lord and is passionate about seeing Christian culture grow and flourish in his community.
